What does 666 really mean?

I need to know what 666 really means, but give me an answer a kid can understand.

Here's the best I can do: "666" is nothing more than numbers.
God is NOT going to kill us all in a single blow.
Some kind of devil is NOT going to take over the world.
Hell is something created by humans when we mistreat each other.
Now - calm down, enjoy life and help your family, friends and neighbors.
God WANTS you to live and be happy.
If all you do is live in fear, then you have submitted to the devil.

666 is suppossed to be the "mark" of the beast, or antichrist, the bible never says that the "mark" will actually appear in the skin or body at all of whoever gets it, but if it did appear in his/her body the mark would be placed somewhere where it couldn't be hid easily like on his/her forehead, or right hand. The "mark" is suppossed to be the name of the creature and each name (first, middle, and last name) will have 6 letters. But literarly the number started to be "evil" a very long time ago when the number 7 was considered the perfect number(i.e. the rainbow, has 7 colors, etc.), the seven was considered so perfect that people had to name an unperfect number, and the number below 7 which is 6 was considered the imperfect number. Since most of the stuff that had 7 "something" was holy, or considered sacred, everything that had a 6 was considered unperfect, and 6 written 3 times would represent evil at its worst. I hope this helped you, it it didn't buy your kid a bible for kids and read to him/her the part of the apocalypsis, and it'll be clear! If you didn't understand the perfect number part read what "Tedel" up there wrote and that will associate it with religion!

We need to start in chapter 12 of Revelation, where a dragon battles the angel Michael. Chapter 13 then begins with a "beast rising out of the sea, with ten horns and seven heads, and ten crowns upon its horns and a blasphemous name upon its heads. And the beast was like a leopard, its paws were like a bear's, and its mouth was like lion's." (There's a similar description of a monster in Daniel 7:4-6.) The beast is empowered by and serves the dragon. Men worship the dragon and the beast, which holds power for 42 months and makes war on the saints. Then a second beast comes from the earth, to help the first beast. This one has two horns like a lamb but roars like a dragon, breathing fire and deceiving men, and killing people who don't worship the first beast. People are marked (or branded) on the right hand or forehead--it's illegal to "buy or sell" without having been "branded with the name of the beast or the number of its name." (This suggests a licensing system of sorts, possibly a reference to an economic boycott against the early Christians by the Romans. I wait for the fundamentalists to use this to condemn social security numbers.)

The chapter ends with verse 18, the key line: "This calls for wisdom: let him who has understanding reckon the number of the beast, for it is a human number, its number is six hundred and sixty-six."

What's this all about? The simple answer is that the number 666 is tied to the beast, which is tied to the dragon, and the dragon is (obviously) Satan. Hence, 666 is the mark of Satan.

6 is the unholy number representing the six fallen angels that raised up against god...the 666, the number of the beast represents the unholy trinity that oppose against the all mighty holy trinity God Father, son and holy ghost...The unholy trinity on other side is composed by the best, the false prophet and the Antichrist and if thou believe in God and today's church then you must fear it...

If you on the contrary you are a a digger then you must know that hell was created long after the creation of the church and God's mythology (i consider it a myth, a nice one in fact, with a very good and strong message) well...where was i?...um..yeah..the concept of hell was created a lot after the Christians because for the church people needed to feel fear of God to be able to follow his rules (you shall not kill, steal, etc...) and so was created hell...and then with the time people had too much fear so there was created the purgatory for the common vice people jajaja nice story uh? so the 666 idea with Satan in hell is a number of beast, a number that must be let to those who comprehends...as the bible says...lol to much mystery jajaja...well that's my answer...

The holy number in the Bible is the seven. Christians (Catholics, specially) believe that God is a trinity of Father, Son and Holy Spirit, so they consider God as 777.

On the other hand, the devil is an imperfect angel that wanted to become as God... This proud will made tradition consider the Devil 3 times imperfect... 666.
