In those movies, two boys, Julian [Jewish] & Jamie [English], face a lot of things during their country's wars. Julian was sent to a church to hid out during WWII and Jamie went to a POW camp.

First of all, I think you mixed up the characters in Au Revoir Les Enfants. Julien is a Catholic boy and Jean Bonnet, his roommate, is the Jewish boy that comes to the Friars school.

As for perspective on the world, the boys in Au Revoir Les Enfants, (esp. the Christian ones) are isolated from the true happenings with the Nazis. As time goes on, they learn that the world is not "all good" and that things are not "always fair". They question their beliefs and grow intellectually.
