Animal abuse or cruelty is one of the most heinous crimes there is. Our animals depend on us for everything and tho they are not humans they are as close as some of us get to having our own children. I have a cat and he is my baby. If anything happened to him i would lose it cause i've given him all my love and attention and if anyone raises their hand to him they will have to answer to me. It should be a felony with mandatory sentence of community service in a animal shelter for abandoned or abused animals. That way they see the affects of their crime. Also mandatory fines should be assessed to the criminal

no. not that animal abuse is acceptable. if it was made a felony, then there would be many aspects that come into question. one such question would be about the beef industry. the animal is being killed against it's will which can easily be considered cruel. but the meat from that animal goes to feed many people. it is cowardly and cruel to abuse an animal, but people will always do it. sad but true.

Yes it should. We disallow the abuse of spouses and children making those felonies. When it comes to pet's we say oh well. Our pets are as much children of God as our spouses and our children Why do we not afford them with the same laws we afford to humans. Oh I forgot thier just ANIMALS.

I think for each class of crime it should be similar to the same crime against a person. For example, a person strikes another once, it is probably going to be a misdemeanor. Conversely, if someone shoots another person, it would be a felony.
