The English king or queen has been the head of the country`s Chruch since Henry Vlll, who died in 1547.Henry Vlll decided to become head of Chruch of England because the Pope refused to allow him to divorce his first wife.Once he was head of the Chruch of England, he could divorce and went on to marry five other women. He also emptied or destroyed England`s Catholic chruches and monasteries. Today there ar many Catholics in Britain, but the Queen remains the head of the Chruch of England. Even in the 1990s, a law remains that prohibits the king or queen from marrying a Catholic. The law of treason means trying to kill or depose of the king or queen. It was this law which had Guy Fawkes executed. In today`s Britain, treason remains the only crime which can lead to a person being executed.
