using medicinal herbs
infusions: an infusion basically a strong tea. to make a normal dose, mix. a small quantity of herbs a spoonful, for instance with one liter of water. you should boil the water and then pour it over the herbs. never boil the herbs in the water because they will lose their healing properties, including those vitamins and minerals which are central to the healing process.
decoctions: you make a decoction when you are using a much more solid herb, such a thick piece of root. again mix a spoonful of herbs with a liter of water but this time you should also boil the herb.
poultices: you use poultices when you want to apply herbs externally, for example on burns or acne. pour enough boiling water over the herbs to dampen them. then place them between two pieces of gauze, with the herbs inside, to the affected part.
when using herbs, remember you are not a doctor. herbs should be used as a complement and not an alternative to conventional remedies.
