Percentage decrease in Cindy's salary
= $300/$7500 * 100%
= 4%

Let their salary last yeara be $x.
Katy's salary this year
= $x (1 + 8%)
= $x (108%)
= $1.08x
Cindy's salary this year
= $x - $300
= $(x-300)
As the difference is $1100, so
$1.08x - $(x-300) = $1100
1.08x - x + 300 = 1100
0.08x = 800
x = 10000
So their salary last year is $10000.

x*(108%)=8100
108x =810000
x=7500
a)(ii) Let x% be the percentage decrease in Cindy's salary.
7500*x%=300
7500x =30000
x=4
The percentage decrease in Cindy's salary is 4.
b) Let x be the salary of Katy last year and,
y be the salary of Cindy last year.
x=y....1
x*(1+8%)-1100=y-300....2
Substitute 1 into 2
y*(1+8%)-1100=y-300
y*108%-1100=y-300
y*108% =y+800
108y =100y+80000
100y+8y=100y+80000
8y=80000
y=10000
The salaries of katy was 10000 and that of Cindy was also 10000 last year.
