Question

even though we didn't like the idea,we did it as was told.

那個as was told是怎麼用出來的阿

我是想問為什麼不是as we were told

Even though we didn't like the idea, we did it as was told.
雖然我們並不認同這個想法, 但是我們還是照(這個想法被告知於我們的方式去)做.

[as]在此是連接詞, 引導一個副詞子句來修飾前半句[we did it]. 完整型態是:
Even though we didn't like the idea, we did it as (it) was told (to us).

當其中的主詞或動詞與前半句雷同時, 可以省略.
而省略[to us]是因為語意很明白, 不寫也無所謂.

至於為什麼不省略[was], 因為可能造成不同的解讀:

Even though we didn't like the idea, we did it as (we were) told.
雖然我們並不認同這個想法, 但是我們還是照(我們被告知的方式去)做.

再舉個例子:
The traffic is heavy as it is in other large cities.
The traffic is heavy as is in other large cities.
The traffic is heavy as in other large cities.
