德蕾莎修女原本是這麼說的﹕“The more you have, the more you are occupied, the less you give. But the less you have the more free you are. Poverty for us is a freedom. It is not a mortification, a penance. ”=“你擁有的越多﹐你就越被(所擁有的)盤據(捨不得)﹐也就給得越少(吝於施捨)。但你擁有的越少﹐你(的心)會越自由。貧窮對我而言就是自由(沒有牽掛)。貧窮不是羞恥﹐不是為了贖罪而做的苦行”
而“當我們擁有的愈多,我們所能付出的就愈少﹐貧窮是絕佳的贈禮,因為貧窮讓我們自由.”這句應當是中文譯者自行加以整理精簡而來的。
