If you can copy the way in which a non native speaker speaks your language, you get a point somewhere between your native language and your target language.
Scusate, questo non e per prendervi in giro, il mio Italiano scritto non e il massimo, pero ho trovato questo metodo molto utile per imperare la lingua parlata. Forze sarrebbe utile nell altra direzzione per voi.

I'm not taking the piss, or mocking.
It come from watching people try to translate everything back in to their own language. If you as an Italian could copy an English speaker speaking Italian, you get the accent grammatical construction, intonation etc... of course I'm not suggesting that it is a finished product

Think about it, how do you know someone is German, French, Spanish etc when they are not speaking those languages... body language, accent, grammatical construction
... language is 90% non verbal!!

No offence intended:
Here in Ireland people learned English on top of an Irish language structure, and that structure is still there even if the person doesn't speak Irish! It's called Hiberno-English
People for example use, "I do be" plus gerund for a habitual action. Or "I'm after" plus gerund for present perfect and the further you get in to the countryside the stronger the accent and the further away from BBC English.
These are only a few examples. They're not wrong or stupid or whatever.
If you exaggerate it in your head, an American or and English person in Rome speaking a few phrases of Italian from a phrasebook there are a lot of element there, that if you can copy them, would help your English immensely, even if you practiced them in Italian!
