我在Practical English Usage的第482.2辭條(非頁數)中看到一個說法:
它說間接問句中 以疑問詞who/what/which+be+補語時,be動詞可放在補語前或後。他還給了例句:
直述句: Who's the best player here?
間接問句: She asked me who was the best player.
She asked me who the best player was .
它說上下2句都能說,這跟我以前在文法書中學到的不一樣,以前的文法書中都說間接問句裡以Wh-疑問詞的名詞子句的詞序為:Wh-疑問詞+主詞+受詞,可是以Practical English Usage的說法來看,該名詞子句也可以用疑問句的句型來寫呢!請問到底是誰的說法才是對的呢?謝謝!

第三版的 Practical English Usage p.249 #276 indirect speech (3): questions and answers
word order: I asked where Alice was
In reported questions the subject normally comes before the verb in standard English, and auxiliary do is not used.
例句: 直述句: Where's Alice?
間接問句: I asked where Alice was. (NOT.....where was Alice)

個人在文法書上是看過這樣的說法. 既然是母語使用者的主張, 總有一定的可信度. 不過不同的句子, 取向或許也不同.
大部分會說:
Do you know who/where she is?
但是會說:
Do you know what is the matter with her?

Irene,您給的例句,和版大給的例句,完全不同!
版大給的who可以做代名詞,而你給的where是副詞(很明顯主詞是"人"
這類問題,我也回答過(但結果是很多人說我亂說),也請教過高人
結果和版主書上的解釋一樣(那2句的中譯不同)
