最上面的一段文是從 American Heritage 字典擷取的, 介係詞
應該填 " on ", 這才是正確的用法, 我也曾在別的參考書上
看過編者用 "in", 還特別問我的美籍老師, 她說 on 才是正確的,
所以這題我印像很深刻, 自己也查了多本字典, 幾乎都是用
"on"

這要看你常用哪種英文，英式還是美式？
英式用in the test，美式用on the test。
例如
(BrE) a good mark in the test
(NAmE) a good grade on the test
至於為什麼，我建議你不要深究。因為針對介係詞的用法，即使很多文法書講出ㄧ大堆天花亂墜的規則，你永遠都可以找到例外。最重要的是多讀多看。
