Why do some people hang dolls under their cars?

I see many cars have soft dolls hanging under their cars near the exhaust pipe? What does it mean?

It's Korean's belief..to protect divil..Thais follow this to us.

Drivers believe that this will help protect those "soul takers" from taking driver's soul since there is one hanging underneath one's car.

I think they must be superstitious,or too many dolls and nowhere else to put.
