醫生的縮寫是M.D. 指 Doctor of Medicine的縮寫. 指藥的專家
眼科醫生的縮寫是O.D. 指 Doctor of Optemtry的縮寫. 指眼睛的專家
牙醫有很多種, 最多的是 D.D.S. 指Doctor of Dental Surgery的縮寫, 指牙齒開刀的專家.
博士的縮寫是Ph.D. 是Doctor of Philosophy的縮寫. 指學問的專家.
Dr. 是放在人名前的尊稱. 像李醫生或李博士都是叫 Dr. Lee.
但是要是寫在名片或正式寫法是:
Dr. XXX Lee, M.D.
Dr. XXX Lee, Ph.D.
或
Dr XXX Lee, O.D.
在美國Dr. 可以用來尊稱醫生, 可是在某些嚴密的用法中, Dr.只能用在博士名字前面, 不能用來尊稱醫生.

上面說的不太對.
律師不能用Doctor來稱呼.
外科醫生是Surgent, 但可用Dr. 來尊稱. 牙科也可以.
驗光師不能用Doctor來稱呼, 因為只是技術員.
藥劑師也一樣不能稱Dr.
獸醫可以叫Doctor可是通常不會尊稱.
脊椎按摩醫師, 自然療法藥學醫師, 整骨醫師, 物理治療醫師, 足部醫療師都不用Dr.來尊稱, 因為都只是技術員, 不須太多的學歷. 就好像妳不會叫按摩的叫醫生一樣
教會神學家跟神學博士通常不會以Dr.來叫, 因為這是跟宗教有關的.

您列出的是學位的名稱, 但是不是每個學位都可以冠Dr. 當然如果您要尊稱某個很有知識的人也可以冠Dr.在他名字前面.
與醫生有關的當然是可以, 博士當然是可以, 但是像律師 (J.D.)跟藥劑師還有其他類似的都只是跟碩士同等級的學位, 所以不會冠Dr.在名字前面. 那些碩士等級的學位並不須要做出學術性研究就能畢業.
只有博士等級的學術性的研究學位跟醫生才能冠Dr. 像神學博士 (Th.D., Doctor of Theology).

doctor 當名詞時有醫生與博士的意思。Dr. 則是doctor的縮寫，用於稱謂上，所以李博士叫Dr. Lee；而李醫生叫Dr. Lee。
