對空中英語教室中一個句子的中譯有問題,請解惑

中譯: 決定啊決定, 人生充滿了要做決定的事. 你可能沒有發覺你每天面臨的選擇這麼多.

我不太理解的是''You may not realize the vast number of choices you face each day.'' 我覺得中文較像'' 你可能無法理解每一天你所面臨的許多問題.''
因為 realise後面不是接句子, 而是直接接受詞 ''the vast number of choices''
如果寫成 ''是''You may not realize how the vast number of choices you face each day.'' 感覺似乎較接近原中譯

若把you face拿掉,

這邊的realise我怎麼看都像是''understand''^^_
可能小弟對此字認識不夠

To put "how" into the sentence, it would be like:
You may not realize how vast the number of choices (that) you face each day is.

"To realize" does have the meaning of "to understand," though the object seems more likely to be "the situation that the number of choices is so vast," rather than the "choices" themselves.

The original sentence looks more like "...you will face..." than "...you have to face" to me.

I agree with the original Chinese translation.

的確REALISE=perceive an idea or situation mentally, 我一直朝不對的方向去想^^_, 我也一直把realize的受詞當作 choices而不是 the vast number, 搞到方向整個偏差, 真是小弟的blunder^_^

Hi, Kenny.我同意雜誌上的中文翻譯.
你的中文翻譯在架構上對了,可是意思不到...注意看喔:
realize the vast number of choices...所以真正了解的是 the vast number而不是choices. 英文的重點在前面,所以 of choices只是介係詞片語,是附屬於 the vest number之下的
但是中文的重點在後面:
你所面臨的許多問題...所以重點是問題....
而雜誌上: 每天面臨的選擇這麼多...重點在那麼多,是數量

所謂的翻譯,其實除了分出正確意思之外,能夠用目的語言的慣用架構來編排才是更高竿.所以簡單地說,你把因為重視整句結構,所以把意思翻的有點出入.有的時候為了達到目的語言的習慣,甚至還把詞性都轉換了.而詞性的轉換也是翻譯學上的一個重要練習..例如:
We know the importance of English. 此句 importance用名詞
但是翻譯為: "我們知道英文很重要" 會比 "我們知道英文的重要性" 要來得好
因為在中文裡頭, "重要" 當作形容詞的詞性比率較高,然而 "重要性" 帶著濃濃的翻譯味道

我記得這個例子,是我再課堂上老師給的一個衝擊,讓我印象深刻.同樣的在中文翻譯成英文的時候,也相對地常常把中文句子變成英文的片語,架構不相同,但是意思正確為要.因為漂亮的英文句子不會一直使用 be動詞,在修辭上,先簡短有力再補充說明會比 "馬上解釋" 來得漂亮.例如:
我忘了那天跟你說了什麼
1. I forgot the words I told you the other day.
2. I forgot what I told you the other day.
1比 2好...1的受詞是 words,而 2的受詞是子句,要整個看完才懂意思

歸納以上不論中翻英或者英翻中,都會以目的語言為主,所以不強調兩句的架構有沒有相同,而是語意到了沒?習慣的編排有沒有使用?這是翻譯學的一個討論方向喔,提供給你參考
另外 realize跟 understand中文可以翻成了解,但是 realize還常常夾帶著情緒上的表達,充分顯示 "親身體認" 那種感覺,這是經驗告訴你的,這也是你所累積著智慧. 而 understand 是對於某件事情的理解,非經驗層面的東西...你能夠 understand一件事情是理解能力, 但是你能夠 realize一件事情則非關理解力,而是你的體認...給你參考喔 ^_^

我非常認同Kevin大的解釋,他說明出翻譯的重點了.看了之前Kevin大的翻譯和文章,不難理解為什麼 Kevin大解釋的觀點正是如此.也因為已經有了 Kevin大的解釋,我在此只是用中文再說明,然後提供翻譯的思考方向 (希望不是借花獻佛才好..呵呵^^)...基本上翻譯到了這個地步已經不是對與錯,而是好不好了
