What factors would affect the electronegativity of an element?
Copper reacts with nitric acid to form copper ions.(this statement is wrong)
The correct one is Copper reacts with nitric acid to form copper(ll) ions.
i don't understand.Why Copper reacts with nitric acid would form copper(ll) ions not copper(l) ions???

Two factors that affecting the electronegativity of an element :

1. The higher the effective nuclear charge, the higher the electronegativity due to the stronger nuclear attractions to the bond pair of electrons.
(Effective nuclear charge = nuclear charge - screening effect)

2. The smaller the size of the atom, the higher the electronegativity due to stronger due to the stronger nuclear attractions to the bond pair of electrons as distance between the nucleus and the bond pair is shorter.

No copper(I) ion is formed in aqueous solution. This is because copper(I) ion undergoes disproportionation (reduction and oxidation at the same time) in water.
2Cu+(aq) → Cu(s) + Cu2+(aq)
In other words, copper(I) ion does not exist in aqueous solution.
