"Rather" expresa preferencia por una u otra cosa.
Se puede usar en una expresion. Por ejemplo: I'd rather go fishing than hunting.
I'd rather have my eyes removed than having to see that again.
En caso de una respuesta a una pregunta puede ser: - Would yo go out with Tina? -I'd rather be eaten by piranhas.
O en una pregunta: Would you rather be deaf or blind?

la primera respuesta es bueno.
hace toda mi vida que hablo el inglés y hace un año que estudio el español. no se dice i rather. se dice 'i'd rather' o 'i would rather'. se tiene que usar la condicional 'would'... a veces se combina la 'would' con la 'i' y se dice ' i'd ' .... no es ' i '-
en inglés hay dos maneras de decir preferencia. 'i would rather eat apples' o 'i prefer to eat apples'. en español se dice 'prefiero comer las manzanas' solamente. la segunda frase del inglés es más como como se dice en español.
