Learning a different language is hard and we should all realise that before we started doing it. I meant it took me more than six years to get it to a point where I can express most of what I wanted to say in English and I'm still learning.

If you really want to get your English right, from my experience, I'll suggest you the following

1. Need to have well defined goals. The journey is long and boring. It's really easy and tempting to give it up half way through. So you might like to divide the learning path into portions. Set goals or milestones on each of the stage. When you finish your goal, praise yourself and move on to the next one.

2. Have patience: Like I said, it's time consuming, boring and, sometimes, stupid. Need to be patient

3. Practice by communicating rather than just plain reading. Languages have patterns. It is more desirable that we learn those patterns by discovering them through communication for two reasons. First, it sticks to your brain. Second, in a real life situation, you will be able to use them straight away. (like it’s part of you) If you do this by studying texts and memorising, you will definitely forget all about them the next day.

4. Try to explain English by English. This is probably the most important one. You can't learn English by translating words to Chinese and interpret them in Chinese meanings. For every phrase or word you encounter, try to explain them in English. Have an English-English dictionary would be good.

5. Get a friend who is trying to learn English like you and talk to them and share what's going on in your life in English (face to face or MSN). Do this like twice a week and you will be an expert in a couple of months

If you don't have friends who want to do that, just let me know. I can probably give you a hand.

That's all I can say. Good luck

Well~ I have thought about this question as well. The best way is really make it part of your life but that is not a easy to do, depends on where you live. I find that watching movies really helps because i love movies. Watch them with english subtitles and gradually, the english will improve. So i suggest you to find what you like to do, reading books, watching tv, and try to put english in to it. This way you will be able to learn english happily and efficiently ^^ Good luck ~~

You meant your English is not very good and you can't speak English well, right? But I thought you were good at "English" if you know what I am saying. Anyway, personally I think the best way to improve your English is try to make it a part of your life, which means you must use it as much as possible. You can start from the things that you're interested in. For instance, if you're a movie fan, go rent the DVDs and hide the subtitle while you're watching it. If you're into fashion, go buy some English fashion magazines. Get my point here? By doing this, I'm sure your English will be improved big time. Good luck.

First of all, try to talk in English as much as you can!
If it's possible, watch more English programs(movies or English teaching programs) on TV(VCD and DVD), such as HBO, Star Movies, etc.. It can help us to learn more vocabularies and the using ways that English people always use in their daily life.
Listening to English music is also a good way to improve our listening
and pronounciation.
Anyway, just study hard and do all your best!
