Herbert Spencer coined the phrase, "survival of the fittest."
Survival of the fittest is a phrase which is a shorthand for a concept relating to competition for survival or predominance. Originally applied by Herbert Spencer in his Principles of Biology of 1864, Spencer drew parallels to his ideas of economics with Charles Darwin's theories of evolution by what Darwin termed natural selection.
The phrase is a metaphor, not a scientific description; and it is not generally used by biologists, who almost exclusively prefer to use the phrase "natural selection".

正確ㄉ翻法是
The proper exists, unwell eliminate
如果是回答者001所說ㄉ話~Survival of the fittest
意思是"最適當的生存"~並非"適者生存，不適者淘汰"ㄉ意思!!

照理來說...
The fittest survive while those not get eliminated.意思是:
"當那些不得到除去的時候，最適當的倖存。"
而...Only the fittest survive.ㄉ意思是"只有最適當的倖存。"
並不是很精確!!所以再強調一次...
正確ㄉ翻法是

版主要的應該是完整的句子，而非像論文名稱的一個詞(如"Survival of The Fittest")．所以，句子可以這樣精簡翻譯：
The fittest survive while those not get eliminated.
甚至更簡要的翻譯:
Only the fittest survive.("僅有最適者才得生存",句子已隱含"不適者被淘汰"的意思)
the fittest: 最適(於環境生存)者(動詞使用複數型) / survive:存活 / those not= those who are not the fittest:非最適者 / get eliminated: 被淘汰
(可以到Yahoo或Google美國站，用"the fittest"或"only the fittest"查詢驗證)
