1.Lacking 和 Lacking in 在用法上有甚麽分別? 例如 Students who are lacking a dictionary can use an online one.這句,若換成 lacking in,即 Students who are lacking in a dictionary can use an online one.,在文法上是否正確?意思上是否相同?
或者有人可能話英文裏只有lacking 而沒有 lacking in, 但我上呢個網站睇(http://elc.polyu.edu.hk/cill/exercises/lack.htm)話有lacking in這用法。其實兩者係咪有時一樣都可以用?
2.另外我查Yahoo字典時見到lack作動詞時可以加for。例如 They lacked for nothing.他們什麼都不缺少。若轉成 They lacked nothing.是否同樣正確? lack for幾時先會用到?
3.最后He is lacking of money. 這句是否一定是錯的?
希望各位能解答我的問題。不勝感潋!!

其實若你查牛津字典,你會發覺Lack這個字,可以作vt及物動詞,與vi不及物動詞用;這兩種用法,在中文上的解釋是一樣,都解作缺乏,但若你看英文的解釋的話,則有少許的分別
若作vt用:它解作:be without; not have; have less than enough of
如:I lack words with which to express my thanks.(著重沒有足夠的言詞)
若作vi用:它的用法必須為 be lacking(in/for 等等),其意思是:be wanting,即正需要
如:Money was lacking for the plan(著重非常需要錢)
  He is lacking in courage.(著重他需要勇氣)
2.我想上面的解釋可以使你明白,其著重點不同(一個著重擁有/一個著重需要)
3.it should be lacking for money.

1) Lacking in is a phrasal expression meaning deficient. Here is lyrics extracted from Janis Ian's "At seventeen"

".......And those of us with ravaged faces, lacking in the social graces, desperately remained at home, inventing lovers on the phone....."

2) "Lack for" verb patten, e.g. He lacks for sth.....
"lacking in" phrasal expression, e.g. The team is lacking in spirit.

3) The sentence is fine.

First you need to know, lack is a noun or verb but lacking is an adjective!
LACKING:[not before noun]
1. lacking in: not having enough of something or any of it
Example:a. He was lacking in confidence.
b. She seems to be entirely lacking in intelligence.
c. The new designs have all been found lacking in some important way.
2 if something that you need or want is lacking, it does not exist
Example:a. Financial backing for the project is still lacking.
b. These qualities aresadly lacking today.
只有not lack for something: to have a lot of something:
Example:He does not lack for critics.

LACKING just used by itself, the IN/ON/AT after it is the preposition for describing target ... LACKING is a NOUN by itself.
For example :
lacking in confidence;
students lacking in arts education ;
lacking in stamina;
Defenses lacking at social network sites ;
即 Students who are lacking in a dictionary can use an online one, is INCORRECT.
because LACKING A DICTIONARY is a NOUN as a WHOLE.
Students not LACKING IN A DICTIONARY, BUT LACKING A DICTIONARY :P
2.另外我查Yahoo字典時見到lack作動詞時可以加for。例如 They lacked for nothing.他們什麼都不缺少。若轉成 They lacked nothing.是否同樣正確? lack for幾時先會用到?

They lacked nothing = They do not have a deficiency of anything.
They lacked for nothing, is not that correct either ... since it must be a noun after lacked ...
example : Yes, forty years you sustained them in the wilderness, and they lacked nothing; their clothes didn't grow old, and their feet didn't swell.
but you can say, THEY WORKED AND LACKED FOR NOTHING ... the meaning is different ... IT meant they worked for NOTHING + lacked Nothing ...
so I still recommend "THEY LACKED NOTHING" ...
3.最后He is lacking of money. 這句是否一定是錯的?

it must be "lack of money" since there is no "Lacking of money" ...
Lack of money is adjective clause, "LACK OF MONEY IS THE SOURCE OF ALL EVIL", so "LACK OF MONEY" is a NOUN as a WHOLE.
"He lacks money." or He is lacking money ... (present continuous tenses)
