If you convert the compound RCOCH3­ to RCOO- by adding I2(aq) followed by NaOH(aq), the reaction is called triiodomethane reaction or iodoform reaction.

The equation is :
RCOCH3 + I2 + Na+OH- → RCOO-Na+ + CHI3

This is because it will exist as RCH2O(-)Na( ) instead, which is NOT the product of triiodomethane reaction.
