You may use LG U8360 in Korea if your mobile have 3G roaming service in Korea. E.g. Smartone, 3, CSL. It doesnt matter that you are not using 3G plan in HK because the phone call you make in Korea will be counted separately. Ask your mobile service company about their charges. It should be ~HK$8 to 15 per minute depending on the time you make the call and which company you are using.

You are right that the mobile in Korea use cdma system. There is no SIM card and each mobile has its own number. The telephone card you buy from the convenience store is not a SIM card. They are for public phone booth or for local mobile phones (which you dont have).

As you only travel to Korea for a few days, just take you phone with you and use your original telephone number. It will be more convenient and you wont lose contact with your HK friends.
