"How many schools have you attended?"
"How many schools have you been to"
Cualquier de las dos formas sería aceptable pero sugieren que la persona a quien se hace la pregunta sigue yendo a la escuela; si ya no es estudiante y la pregunta se refiere al tiempo cuando lo era, sería más bien:
"How many schools did you go to?"
"How many schools did you attend?"
En el Reino Unido a veces se prefiere "been" a "gone" para formar el perfecto de "go"; la diferencia entre "He has been to Spain" y "He has gone to Spain" es que la primera significa "Fue a España (y ahora ha regresado)" mientras la segunda significa "se ha ido a España (y sigue ahí)".
En los EEUU el uso del perfecto es un poco diferente y ellos emplean muchas veces el pretérito cuando nosotros utilizaríamos el perfecto).
