Nitrogen oxide is another name of nitrogen monoxide (NO). Its meaning is entirely different from 「oxides of nitrogen」.
Both methane (CH4) and nitrogen oxide (NO) are insoluble of water, so that they can be collected over water.

因為methane同nitrogen oxide都係less denser than air
但係nitrogen dioxide就係denser than air

因為NO2係soluble in water so 唔可以用collected over water
equation:
2NO2+H2O→HNO2+HNO3
