Why zinc-carbon cells is called dry cells?

The term dry cell is used to distinguish between it and wet cell.

There are many types of dry cells, and all commercial available cells from supermarkets are dry cells. Among all dry cells, the zinc-carbon cell is the commonest one. Therefore, zinc-carbon cell is usually called dry cell.

However, the term zinc-carbon cell must be used when other type(s) of dry cell is also mentioned.
