not rolling the "r" with the front part of the tongue but not using the tongue and roll it in the throat
(the way I explained it to a child having problems to spell it and who comprehended it then)

The "R" is used in Bavaria the same way as in English. In the
other parts of Germany, it is prononounced in the back of the
throat. (Das "R" wird in Bayern in der gleichen Weise "gerollt"
wie im Englischen. In den anderen Teilen Detschlands wird es
im hinteren Teil des Mundes (im Rachen) zum Ausdruck ge-
bracht.

To be honest, this isn't really the best place to ask a question about pronunciation. Have you heard a native speaker? I'd suggest that you either ask a native speaker face-to-face where you are (if you know any) or maybe visit Germany to hear how people pronounce the letter.
I'm not a native German-speaker, but for what it's worth the letter 'r' seems to be pronounced towards the back of the roof of the mouth. I happened to pronounce the 'r' English-style once and was told by a Koelner that it made me sound like an American trying to speak German...

Hope you get this b4 your q is being deleted... Try gargeling with water, then without. That's how northern Germans pronounce it. The aforementioned pronounciations describe the southern German way.

while pronunciating the german 'r' keep your tongue in contact with the lower alignment of teeth (with the teeth of the lower jaw)
