The Chinese believe that,
walking under a ladder would hinder one's growth of height.
And the Western people think it would bring bad luck if one walk under a ladder.

The westerners often turn to astrology (占星術) when they want to bring good luck or keep bad luck awaywhile the Chinese usually go foune-telling or palm-reading.
They believe that if they find a four-leaf clover(幸運草), they'll be lucky.
They cross their fingers when they have troubles.(Maybe by crossing fingers and praying,the prayers may be blessed.)
They knock on wood when they accidentally do something wrong.To them,knocking on wood means "I hope it will never happen again."
They carry a rabbit's foot in order to bring good luck.
They will throw a coin into a fountain and make a wish just like we Chinese do.
They make a wish when seeing a shooting star.
A black cat crossing your path presents bad luck.
Friday the 13th is an unlucky day.
Break a mirror and you'll have seven years of bad luck.
