Yah! It's possible even though it depends on conditions through real estate agency. I saw until 300 Euros a month for a beautiful apartment (90 sm) of 2 bedrooms and a living room of 30 sm(square meters) with wonderful sightseeing in arounding in Natal city.
Normally, if you show that you are a tourist who doesn't know well Portguese, they will pass you some tricks to charge more. But, it you're accompanied by a Brazilian, they treat you normally with a good rate.
As you a foreigner, I think you need some down deposit for waranty.
I live in Curitiba that is also a beautiful city and if you want to live here I can help you find a good and cheap apartment. But for Natal and Porto Seguro, I don't know anyone that can help you if the case.
Good luck!

Look for a real estate. Try to tipe "Aluguel de Imóveis" and the place you wish, in a search engine. They often have English speaking officers an so you can negotiate the way you will pay for it.
