In moist air, white phosphorus (also known as yellow phosphorus) burns at about 30oC. This temperature is known as ignition point. In dry air, the ignition point of white phosphorus gets higher.
In order to prevent the white phosphorus from burning in air at room temperature, it is stored under water.
