Ross Wallace (born 23 May 1985 in Dundee, Scotland) is a professional footballer currently playing for Sunderland.
He started is career with Celtic where he played as a left midfielder but under former Manager Gordon Strachan he played at left back for the reserves and eventually the first team.
Towards the end of the 2005-06 season, new signing Mark Wilson, replaced him at the Left Back position even though it is not his natural position. Wallace did however, play the whole of the CIS Insurance Cup final at Left Back as Mark Wilson was cup tied after having played in the competition for Dundee United. Alan Thompson once said that Wallace was likely to succeed him in the future at Left Midfield.
He joined Sunderland from Celtic on August 31, 2006.
He made his first team debut on September 9th against Derby County and scored the 3rd goal of the game which sunderland won 2-1. He was given the squad number 33 which was previously worn by Julio Arca(Middlesbrough F.C.)
He has made an excellent start as a Sunderland player with a matchwinning goal on his debut at Derby and again at Hull. He does however have the habit of removing his shirt after scoring, which at Hull earned him a second yellow card and his second red card of the season. He has now apologised for his twice removing of his shirt and promises not to do it again (Source: Safc.com), a promise kept after his fantastic free-kick goal against Southampton. He is already most Sunderland fans' favourite player for a long time after only a handful of games.
