Hay varias maneras de decirlo. La que más se acerca a tu frase es: "Friendship is such a precious thing that you should keep it and look after it". Como en sentido metafórico tu frase compara la amistad con una planta, una flor o un jardín, también podría traducirse asÍ: "Friendship is like planting a garden, it takes patience and devotion to see it grow and bloom".
