TWAIN先生以為，
因為會想，而有惡心（malice)。而惡心在其心中，是最卑下的ㄧ個特質。

他把惡心和其他的有可能犯錯的理由，諸如本能（人有求生本能，可能會因此而害生），激情（追求激情而漠視/侵犯了他人/他物），以及罪愆（vice)做比較，而定惡心為其中之最鄙下者。

這中間的選字很有意思：instincts/passion/vice通常都是屬於反射性的（不需經過思考），而且是反求諸己的。也就是單純求自利而出發。並不是以傷人為出發點。malice則完全是以傷人為出發點，是否自利，反而是次要考慮。是人類所獨有（至少他是這樣認定）。這中間隱含的 deliberation，是其他列舉出的本能所沒有的。在這兒，我讀到了另一層由思考能力造成人與他種生物的差別。

然後看 sport：這是另ㄧ個 屬於人專有的 deliberated 活動。因為 sport 和生存完全無關。

人會因為在sport中失利而感受痛苦，但也正因為這項痛苦，人樂於從事sport活動，因為他要將痛苦傳送出去。（當然是為了自己贏，別人輸，把輸的痛苦送出去。）而在這裡，我以為 Twain先生單單強調 sport 中的競爭（competitiveness)意涵，企圖藉ㄧ個與生存無關的活動與人的 deliberation 擺在一起，來說明/強調他的論點。Twain先生將這裡的 pain，與 malice 綁在一起。


最後的 nasty mind，又把這個人因思考能力而有惡心的事實，清楚的呈現出來。mind其實就是思考。Nasty 當然就反應他對思考的評價了。
