About chemistry polarity
3.Place the liquids in an approximate order of decreasing polarity.Interpret this order on terms of the struction of each molecule and comment particularly on the different results in the following pairs of liquids:
a)trichloromethane,CHCI3,and tetrachloromethane,CCI4
b)cyclohexane,C6H12,and Cyclohexene,C6H10

a) trichloromethane,CHCI3,and tetrachloromethane,CCI4
CHCI3 is polar while CCI4 is non-polar
CCI4 is non-polar because of symmetry. All bond dipoles are cancelled. But CHCI3 is
not so symmetrical.
b) cyclohexane,C6H12,and Cyclohexene,C6H10
C6H12 is cyclic and symmetrical. All bond dipoles are cancelled. Its resultant dopole moment is zero. It is a non-polar compound. But C6H10 is not so symmetrical. The resultant dipole moment is not zero. It is a polar compound.
