IPA stand for International Phonetic Alphabet. The International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) is a system of phonetic notation devised by linguists. It is intended to provide a standardized, accurate and unique way of representing the sounds of any spoken language. It was originally developed by French and British language teachers (led by Paul Passy) under the auspices of the International Phonetic Association, established in Paris in 1886. In 2005, it has approximately 107 base symbols and 55 modifiers.  KK are the initials for Kenyon and Knott. KK phonetic symbols provide a phonetc system for General American English, especially for the unique pronunciation of “r” sound of Americans. Kenyon and Knott is the informal name for A Pronouncing Dictionary of American English, first published in 1944 by John Samuel Kenyon and Thomas A. Knott, using symbols largely corresponding to those of the IPA. The DJ(Daniel Jones) System in OUP dictionaries indeveloping his own phonetic system, Daniel Jones, a British phonetician selected those symbols from IPA that could most accurately represent the pronunciation of British English. Kenyon and Knott是由John Samuel Kenyon 與 Thomas A. Knott兩位學者於1944年首度出版『A Pronouncing Dictionary of American English(美國英語發音字典)』一書的簡稱名字(非正式名字),採用了大部分與國際音標相同的音符。
