Draw elecron diagram of C2H6 showing electrons in the outermost shells only :
Draw two circles of C horizontally. In each circle, draw the 4 electrons (x) at positions of top, bottom, left and right. These two circles overlap each other with 2 electrons (xx, single bond).
There are 3 electrons left in each circle of C. In other words, totally 6.
Then draw 6 circles of H, and in each circle draw one electron (•). Each circle of H overlaps with a circle of C with 2 electrons (x•, single bond).

Use dot for H and X for C. H with 1 outermost electron and C with 4 outermost electrons.
C2H6 with double bond between 2 C atoms and single bond bwteeen C and H.
