BUS

WALK

BICYCLE

Bus
Cars are the most common transportation in New Zealand, because it is not easy to get a bus there. However, the situation is better in the cities, and the buses will stop more often by the main stops, probably one bus every 10 minutes. Also, there will be more buses traveling to residential area during the time when students travel to and back from the schools, but still, it takes about 20-30 minutes before one can get on a bus. Compared to Taiwanese bus system, it's till very inconvenient.

Usually, you have to tell the bus driver your destination and pay for the ticket when you board the bus, but sometimes, you can still get a weekly bus pass at the discount rate.

Walk
It is very safe to walk on NZ's street. Most of the time, the car drivers will stop their car when they see people crossing the streets (but this doesn't apply to all those big or major cities). However, as a Taiwanese student, I suggest you to watch the road when you cross the streets before you get better understanding about the traffic in NZ since it's reversed way.

Bicycle
Bicyles are the most preferred transportation for students in NZ. Here, you should ride the bicycles on the road, not on sidewalks (motorbikes also). Besides, when you ride the bicycles in the evening or in the night, you should turn on the front light and wear a red signal light on the bikes or on your clothes.
