a gaseous compound of carbon and hydrogen, in a volume of 300ml at a temperature of 300K and a pressure of 1.200atm, furnishes 1.054g of H20 and 1.930g of CO2 when burned in excess oxygen. Calculate the molecular formula of the hydrocarbon.
i use 300ml =0.3dm3, 300k , 1.200atm and PV=nRT,i can calculate the no. of mole of compound of carbon and hydrogen.then.... i dont know how to calculate the molecular formula?

Assume the molecular formula is CxHy
CxHy + excess oxygen --> (y/2) H2O + x CO2
From the above chemical equation,
When you can calculate the no. of mole of H2O and CO2 evolved,
then you can know what x and y are.
希望你明白啦~~
我唔想計埋答案俾你~~
如果唔係點都唔識計~~
其實同volume, temp., 無關~~
因為你已經有product的mass和molar mass
a gaseous compound of carbon and hydrogen is NOT neccessarily has formula of CnH(2n+2)

只是想提醒你
R = 0.08206
而不是 8.314,因為你用的單位並非 SI

Hydrocarbon has the form of C(n)H(2n+2)
since there should be only one compound exist, based on what you have done,
determine the ratio of C to H and expand to fit in the form of C(n)H(2n+2).
Hope this helps.
