Mixture contains two or more substances (elements or compounds) which are not chemically joined together, for example, mud water= soil+water.

Compounds consists of two or more elements which are chemically joined together.

We can separate the substances in the mixture by physical methods, e.g. we can separate salt from sea water (salt+water) by evaporation.

We cannot separate the elements in the compound by physical methods, e.g. we cannot separate Hydrogen from water by evaporation or filtration. But, we can separte the elements in the compound by chemical methods, e.g. we cannot separate Hydrogen from water by electrolysis.

Compound:
Compound is elements CHEMICALLY JOINED together. They cannot be broken down into simpler substances by physical methods.
Examples are like NaCl - we cannot seperate Na and Cl by any physical means.

Mixture:
Mixture is the product of a mechanical blending or mixing/PHYSICAL MIXING of chemical substances like elements and compounds. There is no chemical bonding between the elements or compounds. We can seperate the substances in a mixture by physical methods.
For instance, we can seperate mud in the muddy water simply by filtration.
