大聯盟「二年級生」王建民竟會在季後賽掛洋基頭牌！球季開打前恐怕沒多少人敢如此預測，托瑞也坦承如此。「在春訓的時候，我們對王建民還是用保護的態度，畢竟去年下半季他曾經舊傷復發。」托瑞說：「然而，我們就看到他那麼駕輕就熟的，像他新人球季一樣的控制好比賽。當然，他的表現令人印象深刻，但我想大家恐怕作夢都沒想到，掛頭牌的重任最後會落到王建民的肩膀上。」
