poderiamos representá-lo como:

O último termo seria tão ínfimo que se tenderia a 0
logo podemos representar como:
999+0,9+0,09+0,009+...+0
o que seria a soma da progrecao aritmética tendendo a zero:
999+ S
S=0,9+0,09+0,009+...+0
0,1S=0,09+0,009+....+0
Substituindo 0,1S na fómula de cima:
S=0,9 + 0,1S
S-0,1S=0,9
0,9S=0,9
S=1
então
999 + S => 999 + 1 = 1000
