toeic 的簡單文法問題 -動名詞,不定詞

Question

有一題是
he spent a long time ( looking / to look ) for the right way to go.
靠語感的話,我會選 looking , 是對的
但為何這邊不能用 to look 呢?

另外,有看到兩題... 一個答案是 Vpp, 一個是 Ving...
到底 needs + 後面要加什麼呢? 謝謝
The office needs painted ?
your shoes needs reparing ? ??

１．這是一個文法：
『人　spend/waste ＋時間＋（in）Ｖing
　　　　　　　　　　　　 on 事物　　』
某人花去/浪費時間在…事上。
※主詞是人。
２．need＋to Ｖ，是表示『主動』
　　need＋Ｖing，是表示『被動』
The office needs painted. （×）
The office needs to be painted. ＝The office needs painting （○）

Your shoes need repairing＝Your shoes need to be repaired. （○）
（shoes 是複數，因此應改為 need；應該是 repair）

這樣應該了解了吧〃 不懂在問唷〃

第一題
你選擇是對的
因為：人+spend+時間+事情(一定要用Ving)。

第二題
need後面加
1.to V 表主動，也就是 人+need+事情(人要去做的)
例：He needs to wash his car.(他需要洗他的車。)
2.Ving 表被動，也就是 人/物+need+事情(有人為它做)
例： His car need washing. =His car need to be washed.(他的車需要被洗。)
所以，要用Vpp，就必須在前面+ to be 表被動
