1.I had been about ten days on the front line when it happened. The whole experience of being hit by a bullet is very interesting and I think it is worth describing in detail. It was five o’clock in the morning, always a dangerous time, because we had the sun rising behind us, and if you struck your head up too far it was clearly visible. I was talking to the guard. Suddenly, in the middle of saying something, I felt, it is very hard to describe what I felt, though I remember it perfectly. There seemed to be a loud bang and a blinding flash of light all round me, and I felt a tremendous shock, no pain, only a violent shock, such as you get from an electric wire.
2.Shoufeng (壽豐), rural township in Hualien (花蓮) county sent many a local boy off during World War Ⅱ to fight in the Japanese Imperial Army. Most never returned. Those who did survive have felt ambivalent about Japan ever since. Although they harbor deep resentments, they also feel nostalgia for the country they consider their homeland as they were growing up. This pigued the curiosity of Michihiko Yanagimoto (柳本通彥), a resident of Taiwan for over a decade and a member of the Japan-based Asia Press International network of freelance journalists. A veteran produce of video documentaries, Yanagimoto wanted to understand these veterans’ opinions and learn what life has been like for the families of the men who died in the war. His curiosity has lead him back time and to Shoufeng, where he has used his home video camera to record the life stories of everyday people.
