when和where後面加完整句子
那為什麼
ex:
1896 is the year when the earthquake took place.
這句when的後面是不完整句子呢!?
This is the place where I grew up.
這句也是where後面也加不完整句子..???
是什麼原因呢?

1896 is the year （which） the earthquake took place （in）.
＝1896 is the year （in which） the earthquake took place.
若把關代所連接的形容詞子句寫成一個句子的話是
The earthquake took place in 1896.
而用關代把兩個句子連接就變成（最原始的型態，未做任何的修飾）
1896 is the year which the earthquake took place in 1896.
然後形容詞子句內的 1896 就是前面關代 which 所代替的字眼，英文中前後兩個子句，若出現相同的字，通常省略，因此把 1896 省略就變成
1896 is the year which the earthquake took place in.
＝ 1896 is the year when the earthquake took place.
而這句話的形容詞子句本來就是『Ｓ＋Ｖ＋Ｏ』，所以是算完整子句。

剛好相反,他們叫關係副詞,後面接完整子句

應該說用when是要說明1896這年發生了什麼事
如果後面又用完整的句子.那不就會重複到發生的時間?
1896 is the year when the earthquake took place.
地震發生在1896年
假如又用完整句子
那麼直接寫The earthquake took place in 1896就好了啊
他之所以用形容詞子句
就是要形容1896這年發生什麼事?OR這是怎樣的一年?
那麼就不會再後面又加了年份吧!!!
This is the place where I grew up.
這句也是阿~
他是用where在形容這個地方..那麼這是怎樣的一個地方呢?
是我生長的地方!
所以後面並不會壟長的再重複呀!

這是一種句型
關係代名詞
就拿你的句子來說
This is the place where I grew up
意思是"這個是我長大(生長)的地方"
這種句型兼有連接詞和代名詞的功用，用於引導形容詞子句修飾先行詞
為什麼都是不完整子句呢?
這個我真的不太會說明
不過你已經有先行詞了再加上完整子句會顯得多餘
這樣的句型在電影中有時會聽到(如果是常出現...那可能是自己太混了)
在中文有類似的說法
例如
我喜歡那個男的，就是三班那個
也可以說是我喜歡三班那個男的
這樣的例句應該比較清楚
如果是第一句就跟上面英文句子一樣
後面那句不完整
可是我們有時卻會這樣說
其實遇到不會的句型或不懂的
可以試著想想中文裡有沒有類似的或相同的
會令自己的不解比較有頭緒
