請問日據時期的「小學校」的英文怎麼翻最正確？

Question

日據時期的「小學校」是指專給日本兒童讀的小學。
而專給臺灣兒童讀的小學叫做「公學校」（public school）。
「小學校」和「公學校」皆為公立的學校。
如果我將小學校翻譯成elementary school不知道對不對呢？
還是另有專有名詞呢？
因為「小學校」與現在所稱的「小學」是不同的，所以我感到困惑...

you're right,「小學校」的英文是elementary school根據維基 -小学校（しょうがっこう）は、初等教育を行う学校である。心身の発達に応じて、初等普通教育を施すことを目的とする。英称については、Primary Schoolでも構わないが、文部科学省はElementary Schoolを公式英称としている。

in fact those countries that used the word primary school has no high school, like in Singapore, Chile and Britainwhereas those countries that used the word elementary school has high school, like in Japan, Taiwan and the USbut in English it is called Primary School
