I don't think NICD is the cleavage product of gamma-secretase acting on APP.

NICD is Notch intracellular domain, which is liberated when gamma-secretase cleaves Notch1. NICD is a key molecule in cellular differentiation that translocates to the nucleus where it acts as a transcriptional coactivator.

AICD is APP intracellular domain. AICD results from predominant cleavage after leucine 49 of the A-beta domain of APP, a position that is analogous to the cleavage of Notch that would generated NICD.

So.... NICD and AICD are cleavage products of two different substrate of gamma-secretase.

Hope this helps, more information can be found in the following citation:

Moehlmann T et al, Presenilin-1 mutations of leucine 166 equally affect the generation of the Notch and APP intracellular domains independent of their effect on Abeta 42 production., Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A. 2002 Jun 11;99(12):8025-30.
