Em geral, as expressões idiomáticas de uma língua não funcionam quando traduzidas ao pé da letra para a outra.
Uma expressão equivalente em inglês seria " to have all the trumps in hand", que significa, em jogos de cartas, ter todos os tunfos na mão.
