Opened up the school’s gym. 可以Opened up the gym of school. 也可以文法說明：1. 非生物的所有格是不能用一撇加 s，而是要用of2. 但這裡把學校比喻成人，叫擬人化，則可用一撇加 s他例：(1) nature’s power 自然的力量(2) the ocean’s road 海洋的怒吼(3) heaven’s will 天意

兩者都是正確的喔並沒有說非生物的所有格不能用'ｓ, 通常國中教的文法多半無變化巨型做範例,所以才會有這種觀念出現 , 用of 除了比較正式一點點之外, 還有一點點強調的意味存在檢查文法正確之後, 還必須考量 rhetoric(修辭), 否則寫出來的英文邏輯和精確度上會有問題

非生物的所有格用's就是中文說的擬人話的用法
這樣是可以的
只是沒那麼正式
你當然也可以用
