UC / Cal state
UC - LA/Berkeley/San Diego
Cal State - Fullerton/Long Beach
I might major in Sociology, but its still undecided, its just a major i\'m considering.
And i\'m currently taking Sociology 1. For some reason I want to drop it, but it will show a \"W\" on my transcript, will it make my transcript look bad?
What does \"W\" do, and how will the Universities think of it?

You may want to check with UC and Cal State admissions in how they interpret or calculate a withdraw.
From experience, a withdraw is highly discouraged, because it essentially means you dropped a course because you did not believe you can pass or get a decent grade. I know there are some schools who actually consider "W" as "F" in grades.
Unless you are certain you won't pass the course, I don't think you should withdraw, espeically if it's one of the "core" classes in your major. You may want to switch to a pass/fail grading for that class if you do not want the grade to affect your GPA.
In any event, check with the admission offices. Good luck!

UCLA,UCB..

W stands for Withdraw

The "W" simply indicates that a course has been dropped between the 4th and 10th week of the semester. A course that has been dropped with a "W" is not used in the
GPA calculation.
Be cautious of the total number of 'W's' on your transcipt - it could be a concern to a
potential employer or graduate school!!!!
So, somehow it does look bad. You must think of it very carefully!!
Hope you can make a right choice eh. Good luck!
