As of November 1st 2005, our internet content rating system will be officially commissioned, and Taiwan Internet Content Rating Promotion Foundation will also be in formal operation. Along with these, Taiwan will become the first country in the world to be able to legally enforce the internet regulation. The 4th rule as stated in the "handling of internet content rating" published by the government on April 26th 2004 has divided the internet content into four ratings in order to protect children and teenagers.

Internet content ratings are not as clear cut as that of movies, in that the ratings are classifed by the "software filtering by program code reading" method. Nevertheless, from individual families' point of view, the ultimate protection will still have to come from parents. Moreover, the self-restraint imposed upon the internet content providers by themselves also plays a pivotal role in enabling the rating system to function properly.
