When Chinese leader Hu Jintao attended the opening of the annual meeting of the United Nations General Assembly in New York today, he was met with a rally held in Dag Hammarskjold Plaza by Taiwanese Americans advocating for Taiwan’s UN membership.

In the rally, the Taiwanese Americans read statements from several Members of Congress in support of inclusion of Taiwan in the United Nations. They are House Assistant Majority Whip Sue Kelly (R-NY), Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-NY), Rep. Edolphus Towns (D-NY), Rep. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) and Rep. Tom Tancredo (R-CO).

數位美國眾議員特於聯合國召開第六十屆大會之際，發表聲明支持台灣參加聯合國。由於適逢中國領導人胡錦濤造訪聯合國，今日(13日)在紐約Dag Hammarskjold廣場前舉行造勢活動的台美社團，特地在活動會場宣讀國會議員聲明，向胡錦濤嗆聲。這幾位眾議員分別為維納爾(Anthony Weiner, D-NY)， 眾議院多數黨副黨鞭凱琍 (Sue Kelly, R-NY)， 布朗(Sherrod Brown, D-OH)，湯斯(Edolphus Towns, D-NY)以及唐克多(Tom Tancredo, R-CO)。
