Ever wonder what it would be like to be royalty? Well, unless you're Prince William or Harry, you probably won't ever get to experience life as a royal. But, in the Princess Diaries, gawky Mia Thermopolis finds out what its like to go from an ordinary San Franciscan teen to Princess of a small European country overnight!
The Princess Diaries introduces you to Mia Thermopolis for the first time. An awkward 15 year-old, living with her artist mom in a cool, bohemian loft in San Francisco, Mia is taken by surprise when her grandma pays her an unexpected visit. Never having met her dad, Mia is surprised that her grandma is suddenly taking an interest in her for the first time in almost 16 years. But soon she finds out why her grandmother from Genovia has arrived. Mia is a princess! And, after her father's recent death, Mia has become the next in line to rule the tiny, faraway county.
The great thing about The Princess Diaries is that you get to watch Mia be transformed from an ordinary, dorky teen into a beautiful, self-assured princess. Anne Hathaway does a great job at making Mia very personable and real. So real in fact, you may catch yourself imagining it's you who's being handed a sparkling tiara. There are a ton of other great actors in The Princess Diaries as well. Mia's best friend Lilly, played by Heather Matarazzo, is super funny - she plays the part of obsessed, student activist really well. Then there's Lilly's older brother Michael. Michael, is really cute and you'll definitely be crushin' on him by the end of the movie. There's something in this flick that'll keep you glued from start to finish.
Do Fairy Tales Really Come True? Sure, Anne Hathaway is already very pretty, so it's not really a stretch to imagine her as a beautiful princess....
